Earthsea Deep Read: The Other Wind, Chapter 4

In this series, I’ll be working my way through Ursula K. Le Guin’s Earthsea works and analyzing her prose chapter by chapter. Spoilers follow.

Chapter 4: Dolphin

Length: 27 pages

Setting: At sea

To tell you the truth, we’re returning to Earthsea with a chapter I don’t have much to say about. I love the slice-of-life aspects of this chapter, bits of conversation, characters playing games. I love and hate that Alder leaves behind Tug in Havnor.

If we haven’t before, we’re beginning to see the shape of this story now. The truth of the afterlife is slowly being revealed to us, and the next chapter will remake Earthsea.

Until next time.
