Captain’s Log 20260303

I have not read the next chapter of The Farthest Shore. I have not written today or taken a good walk. I worked a little at the day job, spent a little (not enough) time with my dogs, and I gave up and took a nap early in the evening.

The truth is, while I’ve plugged away and kept the blog-fire burning, I haven’t felt terribly organized, energetic, or inspired in a few weeks. This blog is important because it keeps my fingers moving when I am fighting the entropic tendency.

I was thinking about Le Guin’s writing schedule earlier this evening. If you’re not familiar, it is as follows:

  • 5:30 am – Wake up and lie there and think.
  • 6:15 am – Get up and eat breakfast (lots).
  • 7:15 am – Get to work writing, writing, writing.
  • Noon – Lunch.
  • 1:00-3:00 pm – Reading, Music.
  • 3:00-5:00 pm – Correspondence, maybe house cleaning.
  • 5:00-8:00 pm – Make dinner and eat it.
  • After 8:00 pm – I tend to be very stupid and we won’t talk about this.

The fight, for me, is in reducing the hours in which I tend to be very stupid and of which we won’t talk about.

I don’t know that I can squeeze out five or six hours a day to write, even on my off days. Certainly, I can’t keep that schedule day-to-day. But I think I can try it.

That may be an experiment for next week to try to build on the discipline this blog has always been meant to grow.

For now, my bed is calling. Until next time.
