In this series, I’ll be working my way through Ursula K. Le Guin’s Earthsea works and analyzing her prose chapter by chapter. Spoilers follow.
Chapter 12: Winter
Length: 26 pages, 276 paragraphs
Setting: Oak Farm
Winter comes with a new order. In the second longest chapter of this book, we get another glimpse of domestic life for Tenar and Therru now with Ged.
Ged and Tenar have a heart to heart and make love. And it turns out this is the chapter I have the least to say about. It’s a beautiful bit of work, but I don’t find a lot to dig into here.
I do like the conversation with Ged, Clearbrook, and Tenar, and the way they run together and lose the thread of conversation the way people do when they’re excitedly sharing news.
Until next time.
