I was going to finish up my post for the second chapter of Tehanu, but my thoughts have been elsewhere tonight. Mainly, there has once again been lots of talk about Harry Potter, a subject I avoid because I do not think its author and her harmful actions toward trans people deserve more ink, air, or energy.
I also have just now realized on the fourth book of my Earthsea reread that I meant to call those blog posts a close read, not a deep read. This is a very silly mistake and evidence of my fragmentary scholarly training. I love books, and I flatter myself that I’m better than average at digging into them, but I am an utter layman. It shows.
Still, I don’t really think most of those posts stand up as close reads of any quality so I don’t think I’ll be changing the titles.
I digress. For your reading pleasure tonight, may I suggest Maia Kobabe’s thoughtful essay comic “Harry Potter and the Problematic Author”?
