This year, I’m setting out with the best of intentions. I intend to blog Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and Fridays I am tentatively setting aside for weeks in review. Whatever that means.
I’ve frittered away this week, mostly. The holidays have been busy at home and at work, and I’ve found my limited remaining brain cells often occupied by Pokémon TCG Pocket. I have collected trading cards since I was old enough to read, but I’ve never found the time, energy, or budget to invest in really playing the games.
For me, the joy of trading cards has always been collecting little bits of interesting art and lore. Too often, playing meant spending a significant bit of cash to have the write cards, and that seemed a lot less interesting than putting together the best deck you could muster with what you came by naturally.
TCG Pocket, it turns out, is right up my alley. There are certainly folks spending money on the game, but I’ve been able to really, fully enjoy playing for free. It’s also quite easy to pick up, and I like that, too.
Beyond my phone screen, I’ve been watching tones of Rumpole of the Bailey. I watched the first episode some weeks ago, and I’ve been hooked ever since. Some of it hasn’t aged well, but I’m thrilled by the prospect of reading more Rumpole cases after I’ve finished up the show.
I started the year off by re-reading The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and now I’m 100 pages into a re-read of Wicked. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I intend to soon. I think this year is going to feature an awful lot of re-reading and re-watching as I refresh the writerly skills and revisit works I haven’t touched in five or ten years.
I’ll be back Monday with a long overdue report on the first Anime Weekend Atlanta at the Georgia World Congress Center. I can’t say I didn’t miss the Waverly, the Cobb Galleria, and the food court at the Cumberland Mall, but I’ve fallen a little in love with the GWCC. More on AWA and my love for the architectural world of convention centers Monday. Thanks for reading. Until next time!
