Mimir’s Thunder: Part 3

Having battled their way into the ancient city where the giant Mimir’s rebel army had fortified itself, the Honest Coin explorers found themselves the guests and allies of the nymph sisters Dandelion, Honeysuckle, and Bluebell. The sisters controlled a Codex Stone, primeval concentrations of magic connected to the very bones of reality.
This stone was just one of several forming a network of magical energies within the city, one the sisters and the Coin believed Mimir was using for uncertain ends. The party sheltered in the nymph’s park to recover from their battles thus far.
Feeling safe within the park’s sanctuary, the Coin took a casual watch, noting patrols on the visible streets of the city and a guard post at the center of the nearest bridge. At dusk, a small patrol rushed into the park having a whispered argument about taking shelter here. The patrol was quickly lost and took no notice of the adventurers.
During the night, the party awoke to the rhythmic footsteps of something massive beyond the borders of the park. The sky above the park was bright with stars, but that small patch of stars was bounded in by the darkest sky any in the company had ever seen. Turning to the park’s gate, the party felt more than they saw as something massive and unfathomably dark peered through the gate. Whatever dark power lurked in the city, it knew they were there, but it could not intrude on the park.

The next morning, Fergus, Dogface, and Heavy Metal planned to cross the bridge and make for a collection of mausoleum-like structures on the other side of the city. Mimir’s troops were mostly giantkin and wilderfolk so the party reasoned that if they could disguise Heavy Metal, they could pass through the bridge checkpoint with ease.
Heavy Metal being a 10-foot-tall, sky blue, mechanical humanoid proved difficult to disguise so Fergus resorted to magic. Transforming Heavy Metal into a dog, the party made their way to the bridge checkpoint.
The checkpoint was manned by a crew of fey bullyboys and two frog-like fey wallows. The smaller of the wallows, a bright green and blue character called Captain Lotus, had control of the post and heckled the party as they approached. Fergus and Dogface successfully talked their way through the outpost, but Heavy Metal, attempting to play a friendly dog, approached the captain only to be kicked and morphed back into his true form.
Dogface’s fast talking held hostilities at bay, but Lotus insisted on sending for one of Mimir’s captains to verify their identities. The party lunged into combat, taking a gout of flame from the fire-breathing Captain Lotus, but the rapid blades of Dogface made quick work of the fey, severing them from the mortal plane.
The party ran hard into the alleys of the city to avoid the patrols coming to discover what happened at the bridge. Once they were sure they had avoided pursuit, they took refuge in a house. The lower floors were, like much of the city, devoid of any sign of habitation, but a large room on the upper floor had been furnished recently.
Covered in a thin layer of dust, the party discovered that the apartment had belonged to a member of Mimir’s army, an Imperial officer who had defected to the giant rebellion. From the officer’s journal, the party learned that Mimir was interested in obtaining an Imperial skyship and that the giants in the army were primarily Mimir’s siblings, close cousins, and their various children.
It seemed that the officer had left with a raiding party some weeks previous and had not returned. Fergus took a set of armor from the wall, made from wood hard as iron fashioned into imperial segmentata, and the party caught their breath deep in Mimir’s domain.
