Month of the Dragon: Iconic Silver Dragons

In addition to the 10 facts about each type of dragon, I’m crafting three unique draconic NPCs for each type. Each NPC will have a bit of personality and history, a lair description, a unique ability, and a hoard.

The Chrome Chronicler
Young Silver Dragon

• Age: 78 years
• Bio: The Chronicler dedicated his life to the study of history when he was little more than a wyrmling. He spends his days collecting tomes of history and writing his own vast treaties with the assistance of a clan of aarakocra whose loyalty he earned when they were beset by harpies. Though his inability to transform somewhat inhibits his ability to travel among and work with humanoid scholars, his aarakocra allies gladly bring him news of worldly happenings and carry missives to and from friendly fellow historians.
• Alternative Characterization: The Chronicler may seek to manipulate the popular version of history toward his own ends.
• Lair: The Chronicler dwells with aarakocra in a mountain time palace of uncertain origin. The palace is carved out of the mountain peak itself, and its long galleries with open archways looking out over the surrounding mountains and valleys are beautiful if cold and windy.
• Unique Ability: Research Prodigy. The Chronicler has advantage on Intelligence (History) checks.
• Hoard: A ring of telekinesis, approximately 4,000 gp in coins, a crown carved from stone worth 500 gp, and an assortment of gems with a total value of 1,000 gp.

Saga
Adult Silver Dragon

• Age: 300 years
• Bio: Saga adores the work of invention, crafting, and scientific discovery. Her identity as a dragon is not something she conceals, but she rarely spends time in draconic form unless pressed. Those who meet her regard her as disarmingly honest, and when it comes to her work, she can out talk a brass dragon.
• Alternative Characterization: Saga is not on good terms with other silver dragons. Some consider her to have abandoned dragonhood. Even friends worry that her love for discovery may unlock some doors best left closed.
• Favored Form: Saga’s preferred form is a small but beautiful silver-haired human woman.
• Lair: Saga’s lair has become a thriving community. Carved into the side of a coastal mountain, Nessaga is home to all manner of mages, crafters, and inventors.
• Unique Ability: Innate Spellcasting. Saga’s spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 18, +10 to hit). Saga can innately cast the following spells, requiring no components.
  1/day each: animate objects, legend lore, fabricate, counterspell, sending
• Hoard: A manual of golems, 200,000 gp in coins, five elaborate clockwork devices (each worth 1,000 gp), and a collection of gems and jewelry with a total value of 5,000 gp.

Verthandi the Wise
Ancient Silver Dragon

• Age: Unknown
• Bio: Verthandi the Wise is a wanderer on lonesome roads, adviser to monarchs, instigator of adventure, and protector of the innocent. Known to most as a mage of more-than-human origin, her draconic nature is a rarely shared secret. Her visits to humanoid villages alongside her clockwork horse Mordecai are often cause for impromptu celebrations and the spark behind dangerous quests.
• Alternative Characterization: Verthandi has sent many young adventurers on quests, and not all of them have come back. There are those that believe Verthandi is an interloper at best and using the ambitions of smaller folk to grow her hoard at worst.
• Favored Form: Verthandi’s traveling guise is that of a tall, stick thin woman with a wild mane of white hair.
• Lair: Verthandi lives in an ancient dwarfhold. Various constructs that she has collected maintain the city, and Verthandi resides primarily in a humble dwelling near the entrance when she is not traveling.
• Unique Ability: Breath Weapon Aptitude: Verthandi can use her breath weapon, even when she has polymorphed into another creature.
• Hoard: A staff of the magi, a robe of the archmagi, an apparatus of Kwalish, 322,000 gp in coins, and a collection of gems with a total value of 25,000 gp.
