100 Days of Anime: Day Ten – This Might Be Useful Later

At the moment, I’m trying to keep current on several anime and finish several more besides. I’ve got a list of things I plan to watch that has potentially years of content. In an effort to maintain some degree of order, there are a few resources I use.

Friends know I have an almost unhealthy affinity for Excel, but cataloging anime in an Excel spreadsheet is a lot of work. Instead I use MyAnimeList. MAL has a large community, and a large catalog. It’s easy to maintain my list and categorize shows based on where I am in watching them.

But MAL has also been having some serious technical issues lately and currently has limited functionality. I have tried competing platform AniList before and liked it alright, although it lacked some of the dispassionate, business-like uniformity of MAL. I just logged in for the first time in months, and they’ve changed a lot. I haven’t gotten to play with it, but it has a lot of very busy screens that don’t direct the eye well. MAL is visually busy, too, but (and this could just be familiarity) I can tell where I need to click to do the thing I’m there for.

I’m looking for a platform to help me keep track of what I’ve watched, and MAL gets the job done so I’ll probably be sticking around. However, the folks at AniList also maintain the incredibly helpful AniChart. In the modern world of seasonal anime, keeping track of the new stuff is hard, and I’ve found AniChart to be super helpful. I’m currently planning out my summer menu.

When I jumped back into the ruckus with the spring 2018 season, I used AniChart in conjunction with videos from the YouTubers in yesterday’s post and input from my friend Sawcy (that’s his real name as far as I’m concerned) to determine what I was going to watch.

Also, if you haven’t noticed, I like TV Tropes a lot. I find a lot of new things to try there too, and they cover a lot more than anime. I also occasionally bounce things of my friend Nik because his opinions on anime are usually blisteringly passionate.

Tonight’s post is another short one, but I almost fell asleep watching a show earlier. We are now at the 90 day mark until AWA. My excitement levels are unreasonable. I’m going to go watch anime. Until tomorrow.
